The first-ever World Poker Tour Merit Cyprus Classic has crowned a champion, and it is Frenchman Thomas Bichon. The $10,000 no-limit hold’em event attracted 181 players who created a top prize. Marvin Rettenmaier has made poker history by becoming the first-ever player to win back-to-back World Poker Tour titles after taking down the WPT Merit Cyprus Classic Main Event.
Situated by one of the most beautiful coves in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Zephyros Cove, stretching toward the clear waters of the Eastern Mediterranean, Merit Crystal Cove Hotel & Casino is 10 kilometers from Girne’s city center and 45 kilometers from Ercan Airport, at the confluence of green and blue right on the sea.
The World Poker Tour Merit Cyprus Classic has found its final table from an original field of 329 and in the lead with a little more than 2.4 million in chips is Ran Azor.
Closing in on him however is Marvin Rettenmaier who starts the day in third place on the leader board with 2 million.
The final table of six was created with the elimination of Erik Cajelais at the hands of Rettenmaier.
Cajelais, who went into the day as chip leader, left in seventh place for $43,690 after his A 6 couldn’t win a race against the German and his pocket twos.
