- Secure Digital (SD) is a flash memory memory card format used in portable devices, including digital cameras and handheld computers. SD cards are based on the older Multi Media Card (MMC) format, but most are physically slightly thicker than MMC cards.
- The Secure Digital card is a highly secure and reliable small flash memory card. Each card features Content Protection for Recordable Media (CPRM) technology, which provides secure protection for commercial and copyrighted content. Adapters are available to read miniSD and microSD cards in full-size SD card readers.
Starting with the low-profile unibody aluminum Mac mini desktop computers, Apple began providing a Secure-Digital SDHC card slot on the left-hand side at the rear of the machines. In later years, the mini’s Secure Digital slot was upgraded to support extended capacity SDXC cards up to 1 Terabyte of storage.
SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) and SDXC (Secure Digital Xtra Capacity) are just newer versions of the SD (Secure Digital) standard that support larger storage capacities and faster processing speeds. If you’re using a new-ish digital camera, the chances are it takes SD format cards, and it should support all three versions. Secure Digital (SD) cards are used in digital cameras, music players, smartphones, tablets, and even laptops. But not all SD cards are created equal—you’ll find different speed classes, physical sizes, and capacities to consider. I do not think you will find a single slot adapter for that anywhere. Your dv6-3000 had this: 5-in-1 integrated Digital Media Reader for Secure Digital cards, MultiMedia cards, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro or xD Picture cards. Your new Envy 15t has this: 1 multi-format SD media card reader. Only SD is supported.
Mac Mini SD Slot Location
Apple is still including an SDXC (and SDHC - SD backward compatible) flash memory card slot on the slimmer aluminum Mac mini systems. The Mac mini's SD card slot is still located at the rear of the Mac mini alongside the USB 3.0 ports and directly above the Analog/Digital audio in and out jacks.Secure Digital (sdxc) Slot
